Mixed fan reaction as record goalscorer makes Celtic debut

Celtic fans got their first glimpse of summer signing, Giorgos Giakoumakis, on Thursday night.

The big Greek striker made a cameo appearance from the bench with the home side trailing 3-0 to Bayer Leverkusen. Fans have had to wait patiently for the former VVV-Venlo striker to gain match fitness and overcome a calf strain he sustained warming up against Raith Rovers, before seeing their new number 7 in action.

Replacing the poor David Turnbull on 73 minutes, Giakoumakis didn't have much time or the best of situations to make his mark. Fan reactions were mixed on his impact.

It's hard to make an informed judgment after such a short cameo under the conditions. Giakoumakis did look a little off the pace but that's to be expected given his current fitness levels and conditioning.

I think it's fair to say that he's definitely going to offer something different and I'm convinced his best work will be done inside the box after linking with the likes of Kyogo, Abada and Jota.

All eyes will be on how Big Ange uses the hitman over the course of the next few weeks.
