Celtic travel to Ibrox for the first Glasgow Derby of the season this afternoon. Back in Scotland after securing a place in next month's Europa League Group Stages, Ange Postecoglou is relishing the prospect of his first taste of this famous rivalry and now has the option of introducing a new signing to the occasion.
Croatia wing-back Josip Juranovic was announced at Celtic Park last week, but the 26-year-old was unavailable for the midweek tie against AZ Alkmaar, as his new teammates secured a 3-2 aggregate win.
As reported in the Scotsman, Juranovic confirmed he was ready to play and would draw on experience of previous derby days to prepare him:
I had it in Croatia with Dinamo against Hajduk Split and also in Poland with Legia, where I had big derbies against teams like Lech Poznan... I really like these games because every bit of it is tough and you have to be concentrated every second of the game to make sure you do not make any mistakes.
While derbies in Croatia and Poland - where he played alongside former Celt, Artur Boruc - will have stood Juranovic in good stead, there are few things in world football that rival the intensity when Celtic and Rangers meet.
If Juranovic is called upon by Postecoglou today he may come up against fellow Croat and Rangers left-back, Borna Barisic, but the new signing didn't mince his words when asked about that possible reunion:
"On the field, I do not have friends... I’m looking forward to it very much because I am here to play and not to have my holidays. I have been waiting for this moment to play in one of the matches and the most important thing is to win."
This kind of focus and controlled aggression will be music to the ears of the Celtic faithful, who despite not having a ticket allocation for the match at Ibrox, will be supporting Juranovic and his teammates on from pubs and living rooms across the globe.
