Video: Celtic 'have already reached an agreement' for Benfica winger

Updated: Sep 25

Portuguese publication, Record, report that highly-rated winger, Jota, will join Ange Postecoglou's Celtic revolution before the transfer window closes at midnight on Tuesday.

The tricky winger, who came through the Benfica youth ranks spent last season on loan in La Liga, and is due to join Celtic on an initial one year loan deal. It's also reported that there's an option to buy at the end of the season.

Predominantly operating on the left, the 22-year-old was seen on the opposite wing and through the middle when called upon as he made 17 appearances for Real Valladolid in the previous campaign.

It now appears that only the formalities remain before he could be seen in the famous green and white hoops.

Renowned for his pace, dribbling ability and desire to run at defenders with every available opportunity, his style is comparable to former Celtic fan favourite, Patrick Roberts.

It's thought that Jota would slot straight into the Celtic side as a direct replacement for Mohamed Elyounoussi, who is now back at Southampton after spending two seasons on loan in the East End of Glasgow.

With Liam Scales confirmed and the signing of Giorgos Giakoumakis imminent, the Celtic rebuild is well and truly underway, as they attempt to wrestle the SPL trophy off a Rangers team who they face later today at Ibrox in the first Glasgow derby of the season.

We'll keep you updated on this one progresses but in the meantime let's take a look at some of Jota's impressive highlights from last season:
